Is RIP. safe? A guide for parents
If your teenager has asked to download RIP., or you've spotted it on their phone, you probably have a few questions — starting with whether it involves real money. This page answers them directly and honestly. The short version: RIP. is an educational game. There is no real money, no real trading, and nothing to lose. The detail is below.
The one-line summary: RIP. teaches teenagers how investing works using virtual money and real market prices. It is not a real trading app, not gambling, and not financial advice. Your child cannot lose, spend, or withdraw real money through it.
Does RIP. use real money?
No. RIP. uses virtual currency only. Every player starts with $10,000 in virtual cash, and no real trades are ever placed. There is no facility to buy real shares, and no card or bank account is ever linked for trading. Virtual currency has no real-world value and cannot be exchanged for real money. The optional Premium subscription (for extra duel formats and features) is the only real transaction, and it's a standard App Store purchase you control.
What age is RIP. for?
RIP. is designed for teenagers, broadly ages 13 to 18. The 88 finance lessons and the stock-trading duels are written specifically for a teenage audience. Please check the current age rating on the App Store listing and review our Children's Privacy policy for how we handle younger users.
Is RIP. financial advice, and is it FCA regulated?
No. RIP. is an educational simulation only. It does not provide financial advice and is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). It's built to teach the principles of investing in a risk-free environment — not to facilitate real investing. You can read the full position in our disclaimer.
What data does RIP. collect about my child?
RIP. collects only the data needed to run the app, and is governed by our Privacy Policy and Children's Privacy policy. Because we don't facilitate real-money transactions, we don't collect banking or payment-card details for trading. We're a UK company (RIP Club Ltd, ICO registration ZC110349) and handle data in line with UK GDPR.
Can my child lose money or gamble on RIP.?
No real money is ever at stake, so there's nothing real to lose. When players "stake" cash on a duel, it's virtual cash and XP only — it has no monetary value and can't be cashed out. RIP. is framed as an educational game about learning to invest, not gambling: the reward is bragging rights, XP, and a higher rank, not money.
How can I see what my child is learning?
All 88 lessons are free and public on the RIP. Learn hub — you can read every one yourself without downloading the app. They cover the basics of investing, stocks, bonds, crypto, strategy, risk and analysis, all written in plain English for teenagers. A good place to start is our guide on how to invest as a teenager in the UK.
